Creativity + Accessibility + Learning = Why We Are Here

Our Mission

We create, produce and present educational and creative opportunities in the arts, centering our work in global music improvisation, contemporary music, and site-specific and collaborative art making. Framing our work through the lens of social aesthetics, it is our belief that how art is made is as vital as what is created.

A Little bit more…

Caribou Sonore focuses on musics that occupy the peripheries of established musical culture. Specializing in “music from between-the-cracks” areas we’ve worked in include: global improvisation practices (maqam, dastgah, jazz, raga and free/creative improvisation), contemporary composition and graphic notation methodology, collaborative arts practices and site-specific performance projects.

Our programs include workshops, artist talks and panel discussions, and multidisciplinary performances and concerts, all with the support of a dedicated network of partners.

Caribou Sonore was one of the earliest examples of cross-disciplinary, cross-cultural work in Montréal. Their programming and work is a force to be reckoned with.
